Our recent post portraying Mitt Romney as a cult victim disconnected from humanity due to his strict religious upbringing in the LDS caused quite a stir among COG members on Facebook.

Many denizens of the internet are familiar with the famous Political Compass Test, which charts political views on an x and y axes instead of the traditional left-right continuum. It deepens the process of political labeling, to the extent that’s even important, by adding levels of authoritarianism to ideological values.

It helps to challenge the black and white thinking found among media pundits, idealists and religious fundamentalists and demonstrates people’s beliefs are more complicated than the simple “us vs. them” paradigm usually found in our political discourse.
